AEC Profile; UPS systems

10kVA - 40kVA UPS System
- Three Phase
- True Online Double Conversion

T6 COMPACT+ UPS

The T6 Compact+ is designed to protect against the many electrical threats which stalk our heavily computerised infrastructure. Most individuals simply think of power failures in the context of lightening strikes or some other so called “act of God”; however these opinions are very far from the truth.

In actuality, most power failures are not from an angry deity, but from altogether more benign sources.

The reality is that your computer suite is more vulnerable from the contractor down the road with his big yellow JCB, or from the site electrician who has forgotten which breaker does what, in the jumbled up, spaghetti wired power distribution panel. Or what about one of the most common causes of a PC computer crash, the cleaner pulling the plug to use the vacuum cleaner, yes, it really happens!

Many have the genuinely misguided opinion that a UPS is there essentially to protect against a power failure, and it’s true that such a failure can be a disaster for any IT installation. But in reality the electrical threats are much wider and more subtle than most can imagine, here are some threats explained, and how the T6 Compact+ can protect your system.

> Brown Outs

A “brown out” happens when the voltage to your network drops to a point whereby by it can cause a server or PC to simply stop working. The effect is the same as a full power failure, but may only last a second or two, or maybe even less. To illustrate, how often have you experienced your lights dim, just briefly?

90% of the time this is because of a voltage drop, or “brown out”. The T6 Compact+ is
designed to deal with this subtle threat, offering your servers a fully regulated and clean supply regardless of the input voltage, and it will even record the event so that you can investigate at a later time.

Spikes

Spikes are very short bursts of high voltage and high energy; these are often caused by the stopping and starting of motors or compressors, typically air conditioning or chilling units. Smaller but equally disruptive spikes can be caused by laser printers or other similar machines.

These spikes have a nasty habit of locking or freezing a computer program, an irritation we have all experienced.

AVR
Long Backup
Surge Protection
Softwares
Digi tech system
Tel/Modem Port
AVR Automatic Voltage Regulation:

Not all off-line or line-Interactive UPS have an AVR. The benefit of an AVR, which is essentially a switching transformer, is that the voltage can be regulated without having to engage the batteries; this feature dramatically extends battery life. AVR’s are not normally required with On-Line UPS.

Long Back Up Times:

Typically UPS have a standard run time of between five to ten minutes, but the demand for longer autonomies is growing, especially in the area of telecoms. For UPS to be able to offer longer run times the system has to be able to offer additional battery charging and a continuously rated power output stage, when you see this logo against a product you can rest assured that a reliable battery recharge and extension run time can be provided.

Surge Protection:

Surge protection is vital for today’s modern commutations equipment; surges can take two forms, (1) high speed (transient spike) (2) slow voltage increase, typical in factories or end of grid situations. Surges are not just an increase in voltage but also in energy, it is the power stored in the surge that can cause the most damage, when you see this logo relax, surge protection is on hand.

Software:

When you see this Icon you have available to you a wide variety of power management and shutdown options.

Digitech:

Yes, you have guessed it, when you see this icon you have the comfort that your AEC machine is using digital control, this offers incredible reaction time to anomalies that the mains may try and throw at your network

Tele/Modem Port:

The Modem Port offers the client the opportunity to interface with the UPS via a phone line or alternatively the modem can be programmed to call up to six phone numbers in the event of a fault or mains failure condition.

Standard Proprties:

• Hi Level diagnostics via LCD screen or lap top.
• Input power factor correction .99pf
• Low audible noise.
• Back feed protection
• Green Mode.
• Modular Construction
• High speed temperature compensated battery charge
• Light weight and compact.
• Front access
• Made in EEC

There is a bigger danger that larger spikes can easily damage a power supply, hence many quality servers have two. The T6 Compact+ incorporates high energy absorbing filters that will mitigate this threat, offering your network a clean and regulated supply.

Installation Simplicity

A 15kVA T6 Compact+ weighs in at only 90Kg (no batteries), even it’s bigger brother the T6+ 40kVA weighs in at a meagre 141Kg. The weight advantage proves to be very useful when having to use lifts to site the UPS, as raised floors generally don’t have to be reinforced and the whole siting procedure is made safer because of integrated wheels and easy manoeuvrability. Add to these features convenient cable access and battery installation, and its easy to see why we call the T6 Compact, the T6 Compact “+”.

Configurations

The T6 Compact+ offers ultimate protection for data networks, CCTV and other essential applications, thanks to its cutting edge modular design. Every T6 Compact+ is packed with communications options and optional operating modes. Normal mode is as a double conversion UPS, alternatively the T6 Compact+ can be configured to
run as a line-Interactive system (green mode), further reducing energy costs or as a frequency converter, again all programmable.

The T6 Compact+ is available from 10kVA to 30kVA in three to single phase and from 10kVA to 40kVA three to three phase. The technology of the T6 Compact+ series is true double conversion. With Double conversion technology, the load is run 100% of the time by a continuously rated inverter, with the output voltage and frequency being
regulated, cleaned and constantly monitored. Added to the inverter section are additional output filters which remove any other electrical noise, even in bypass mode.

Reduced Power Consumption

When running in its normal On-Line mode the T6 Compact+ can offer an AC/AC efficiency of 92%, this increases to 98% in DC to AC mode. Achieving a high DC to AC efficiency means that the batteries can run for longer, thus your network runs for longer.

Should “Green Mode” be selected then AC to AC efficiency increases to approximately 98%, In “Green Mode” the T6 Compact+ acts as a Line-Interactive device, so that in the event that the mains fail, the load will be supported within less than 2 m/s by the battery. Note: when in On-Line mode there is no time delay between mains fail and battery on.

Serviceability

MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) can mean a lot more than just four letters when responsible for the efficient running of an IT network or production plant. A low MTTR is what all serious users need, in fact demand! This requirement is no problem for the T6 Compact+, which offers features that dramatically reduce service or repair times. Even before an engineer arrives on site, a problem can be diagnosed via the LCD screen or through a software interface. All circuit boards are
housed within drawer like modules and are accessed via the front of the UPS, so removal and replacement of a drawer can be done in less than ten minutes.

Battery Management

To off-set the unavoidable process of battery decay, the T6 Compact+ incorporates a battery management system which is calibrated in accordance with almost any battery manufacturers’ specifications. If at some future point you want to use an alternative brand of battery other than the original it’s no problem, after a small adjustment the T6
Compact+ will accommodate your desired brand.

A great friend of current ripple and equally destructive is temperature, the hotter a battery gets the less it performs. Battery temperature within the T6 Compact+ is carefully monitored, with the data being passed back to the charger.

Should the batteries get warmer the T6 Compact+ will adjust its charging regime to reduce voltage. Any life threatening battery problems will automatically be raised as an alarm, giving an opportunity to remedy the problem.

Mains Friendly

The T6 Compact+ is a transformerless UPS with an IGBT input and output all controlled by DSP technology (Digital Signal Processor). Again here we have acronyms, IGBT, DSP, but how do these affect you, the user? The combination of Isolated Gate Bipolar Transistors and Digital Signal Possessing, allows the T6 Compact+ to have an
almost negligible effect on the mains supply, in that less than five percent harmonic distortion is generated. The benefit of this important feature is that a generator can be down sized by as much as 50%, the user, will more than likely fall outside any financial penalty bands that many EEC countries are considering for mains pollution.

Blade Server Compatability

The T6 Compact+ will work with almost any type of load accepting power factors of either .9 leading or .9 lagging (many other manufactures standard is .8pf).

This makes it ideally suited for applications with Blade Servers, or other devices where a leading power factor can offer a serious challenge, a challenge not all UPS can meet.

Efficiency

DSP, IGBT, Tri Core technology, all add up to an efficient UPS, and efficiency equates to saving substantial amounts of money. Achieving >92% in On-Line mode, this is typically 7% to 8% better than a conventional UPS, in real terms you could be saving 2.8KW per hour on a 40kVA installation. Imagine a 2.5KW electric fire running in your office day in day out, this is the potential saving you could make with the help of the T6 Compact+!

Because the T6 Compact+ runs efficiently, generating less heat, the air conditioning system can be down rated on an almost pro-rata basis, again savings are made, another big PLUS for the T6 Compact+.
